The Chair of Technology Marketing is grateful for welcoming three new researchers, one in quantitative marketing and two behavioral scholars. Daniel Schoess recently finished his master’s and joined as a doctoral student in February 2024. Dr. David Finken continues his research endeavors on mixed reality applications and started as a postdoctoral researcher also in February 2024. Dr. Ertugrul Uysal has continued researching the effects of social media and perception of generative AI in November 2023.

About Daniel Schoess
Daniel Schoess is a doctoral student who joined the chair in February 2024. He recently earned his Master’s degree in Management, Technology, and Economics from ETH Zurich. For his master’s thesis, conducted at the Operations Research Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he explored capturing cross-item effects through multi-modal product embeddings. In his research at our chair, he will focus on harnessing deep learning techniques and large language models to address marketing-related challenges.

About Dr. David Finken
Dr. David Finken is a postdoctoral researcher and joined the chair in February 2024. David earned his Ph.D. at the Institute of Marketing and Analytics (Lucerne) and has been a visiting scholar at the Ross School of Business (University of Michigan). Before his doctoral studies, he received a MSc in Marketing & E-Business (University of Goettingen) with visits in Korea and Canada. David holds a bachelors in Sports Business. His research focuses on psychological responses to mixed reality (i.e., spatial computing) applications such as augmented and virtual reality. Specifically, he strives to identify the situations in which mixed reality applications have positive or adverse outcomes and the reasons behind them. In addition to his work on mixed reality, David Finken has a second stream of research that broadly relates to digital goods and AI-based entities. Before joining academia, David worked in several sales and strategy related roles.

About Dr. Ertugrul Uysal
Dr. Ertugrul Uysal is a postdoctoral researcher and started in November 2023. He obtained his Ph.D. in Management from the Institute of Management, University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Before his doctoral studies, he received an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Trento in Italy and a BSc in Biology from Fatih University in Turkey. Broadly, his research focuses on how consumers interact with and relate to digital technologies. He is interested in the impact of social media, generative AI, and various AI-powered tools (e.g., voice assistants, virtual reality) that consumers use in their daily lives and exploring ways to empower consumers in their relationships with technology.

We wish all just the very best for a great start, paired with multiple insights on emerging technologies.
