Research Project on Click and Collect Rewarded with Funding by the ETH Gesellschaft

The research project "The Adaption of Click and Collect in Retailing" by Florian von Wangenheim and Sebastian Tillmanns was awarded generous funding by the ETH Gesellschaft in December 2021.

In 2020, gross value added in the retail trade sector in Switzerland amounted to around 25.3 billion Swiss francs (Statista 2021). However, the Corona crisis has plunged brick-and-mortar retail into crisis and fueled online retail. This could lead to local retail slumping in favor of large online corporations like Amazon. Many Swiss retailers, such as Manor or Coop Vitality, are trying to counteract this trend by introducing Click & Collect for their customers. The question here is whether this is an effective means of combating the crisis or whether the disadvantages of this measure ultimately outweigh the benefits. With this research project, we want to give recommendations to brick-and-mortar retailers in order to be able to survive the competition with large online corporations.
